I just discovered Kellie Pickler. I love her voice, and as I was listening to her album on the way home from work, this song came on...I had to listen to it 3 times to make sure I got every word, and I almost started bawling on the subway...it perfectly sums up what is going through my mind right now, especially the bridge.
Sometimes the night seems so lonely
When your lying there all alone
And tomorrow seems so far away
I don't wanna live another day this way.
Scared to love someone else
Can't bear the hurt again
But my body needs to feel a touch
Someone to come and wake me up.
I just want somebody to love me.
I just need somebody to hold me.
Somebody to love me...
Don't wanna let life pass me by
Never knowning what its like
To be as real as real can be
To share my life and know my dreams.
I just want somebody to love me.
I just need somebody to hold me.
Somebody to love me...
Cause I'm hurt and I'm scared and I'm lonely
All I want is somebody to want me
Cause I've got so much to give.
I just want somebody to love me.
I just need somebody to hold me.
Somebody to love me...

My epiphany.
Alright, so this blog is for those of you who are close to me, instead of repeating the story a bunch of times to each of you, I'll just post it here.
So my boyfriend (James) is a grad student at Columbia, and he will be graduating in May. We have been dating just over a month now and it was an incredible month, really. We were swept up in a romantic whirlwind, just like a fairy tale, love at first sight. Amazing, really. Things did go quite quickly, because we spent a lot of time together and realized we were in love almost immediately. This was great when we were in our bubble, but when you're a grad student, as he is, you need to focus on your work or you'll have to pull several all-nighters in one week. Not good.
So long story a bit shorter, the past week has been him explaining to me how he needs to focus on getting a job and finishing school right now, because if he doesn't give school his all, there may be no job, and he may not stay in NYC. So let's all hope he gets an amazing job that lets him stay here. Please...so we agreed that the best thing to do would be to slow it down. More than just seeing each other merely once a week, we finally (after many tears, frustration and confusion) decided that we will go back to that "first dating mentality", trying to go back to just dating before things got super serious. How do you do this when you're already in love? I don't know. But that's what we are doing...trying, anyway. The only other options we could think of were 1) being "just friends" for a while (which I could NOT do, could anyone be friends with someone they're already in love with?) or 2) break up (which would be horribly unfair and heartbreaking and ugh...I don't even want to think about it)...
Anyway. We are trying this. I'm willing to stick with him until he's ready to get serious again, and hopefully we can stick together. So finally, getting to my "epiphany"...
I guess you could sort of call it "our song"..."Love Story" by Taylor Swift (who I found quite annoying at first, but her songwriting is really very good) was stuck in my head for about 2 weeks straight when we first started dating. I had him listen to the song on our second date, and since then, he's my Romeo and I'm his Juliet. :) So anyway, I love the song and we have a fairytale romance, so it works. It is fitting.
And then when I was at work tonight, I started singing the song in my head and realized that it perfectly fits this situation. Perfectly. "This love is difficult, but it's real. Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess, it's a love story, baby just say yes..." I've been trying to keep a positive outlook on everything and truly believe that whatever is meant to be will happen. So now that I know this song will help me through it, I'll have a bit more incentive to be patient and understanding.
I also should mention I bought a guitar and will spend the next couple months learning how to play. And the first song I am learning is this one...I already have the sheet music :)
And for your enjoyment, the music video (including lyrics on-screen)...enjoy!

New year, new stuff.
Well hello stranger! Long time no posting...
A lot has been going on, blogging has been far from my mind.
But I'm back now! (applause please)
So what's been going on you ask? A LOT. Let's just list everything...
- I will hopefully be transferring schools in the fall, I am applying to the School of Visual Arts right now, I actually need to finish my essay (I've had major writer's block) so I can send in my application. I realized that MMC doesn't have a great graphic design program, it's more of an introduction to graphic design, and I want something that will challenge me to be the best that I can be. And so far, SVA seems like the right place for that. The downside of this, however, is probably no more than 6 of my credits will transfer with me, since the program at SVA is all about graphic design, and I've been getting a liberal arts education and taking tons of core classes. Soooo what that means is I will probably end up a freshman again. Wahoo. I wanted to graduate as early as possible, but I guess I'll have to start cheering class of 2013 instead of 2011...at least I'll be really prepared for internships and a job right out of school!
- I've got a new man in my life :) His name is James and he is wonderful. I always hoped that love at first sight was real, and now I know that it definitely is. We have been living a fairy tale and it's amazing. He is almost the male version of me, which may make him sound gay, but TRUST ME - he ain't. ;) It's so nice dating someone in Manhattan, we have had so many random late-night or mid-afternoon dates, which means that even though today makes it 3 weeks since our first date, we have spent more time together than many people who have dated for over 3 months! It's really exciting and romantic, and most of all, it's so real...
- I am going to my first New York City Ballet performance on Friday with James. :) We are seeing "Short Stories", which is really 4 ballets in 1, including The Steadfast Tin Soldier, Swan Lake, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, and Romeo and Juliet. I'm especially excited for the latter because it's sort of our story...I call him my Romeo and he calls me his Juliet...only our story hopefully won't be tragic...Mushy gushy I know haha. Anyway, I have a really pretty new dress and we will get all dressy and have a true night on the town!
- I drink tea now. A lot. My favorite is Wild Sweet Orange from Starbucks, though Celestial Seasonings makes a really yummy Mandarin Orange Spice as well. I don't know why I decided to start drinking tea...but I love it!
- I am so over the Upper East Side. It is way too stuffy and snobby. I love where James lives, on the west side in the low 100s around Broadway or Amsterdam. That's about as high up as I want to go, but no matter what, I want to go on the west side when my lease is up in May. My friend Kelly is moving here when we get an apartment, so really, I may be apartment hunting all alone! Eek! At least we will be looking online together and she is coming out soon so we can scout out ideal neighborhoods and/or buildings. All I want is a doorman so there is someone to sign for packages and at least 2 bedrooms so I can have a room with a door to call my own space and escape to if I need to. That's all I ask.
- I got lighting equipment for Christmas and now take headshots for anyone who needs it, so if you know anyone in NYC who wants headshots, tell them to give me a call! I am very reasonably priced and will actually have business cards in a couple weeks :)
- I have to have nose surgery in June, as I have a deviated septum caused by a metal door slamming me in the face in 3rd grade. Apparently that door broke my nose and no one thought to see if it was broken, so I haven't been able to breathe out of my right nostril since then...My nose is also pretty crooked if you look hard. I'll be getting the deviated septum fixed and my nose straightened at the same time, but I shouldn't look too different, just bruised for a few weeks! But I am DEFINITELY looking forward to finally breathing out of my nose like a normal person! :)
- I am still working at In the Heights, and bowling on the bowling team. I got my highest score ever 2 weeks ago, with my first ever turkey (3 strikes in a row!)!!! Last week I got my 2nd highest score ever, with my 2nd turkey!!! Two turkeys in two weeks?!?! Damn. I'm good. ;)
Okay I think that's all. I told you a lot has been happening. And that's not even the deep stuff haha. But the past three weeks are the happiest I have been in a very long time, and I hope it just keeps getting better! Lookin' fine in '09!

Lookin' fine in '09!

my mother may hate me for this...
This is a piece written by Eve Ensler (The Vagina Monologues), shared with us on Idina's fan page...my mom will hate me for agreeing with this, but I do. Sarah Palin is scary...
By Eve Ensler (activist, feminist, author)
"I am having Sarah Palin nightmares. I dreamt last night that she was a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears. Maybe it's their snowy whiteness or their bigness or the fact that they live in the arctic or that I have never seen one in person or touched one. Maybe it is the fact that they live so comfortably on ice. Whatever it is, I need the polar bears.
I don't like raging at women. I am a Feminist and have spent my life trying to build community, help empower women and stop violence against them. It is hard to write about Sarah Palin. This is why the Sarah Palin choice was all the more insidious and cynical. The people who made this choice count on the goodness and solidarity of Feminists.
But everything Sarah Palin believes in and practices is antithetical to Feminism which for me is part of one story -- connected to saving the earth, ending racism, empowering women, giving young girls options, opening our minds, deepening tolerance, and ending violence and war.
I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket is one of the most dangerous choices of my lifetime, and should this country chose those candidates the fall-out may be so great, the destruction so vast in so many areas that America may never recover. But what is equally disturbing is the impact that duo would have on the rest of the world. Unfortunately, this is not a joke. In my lifetime I have seen the clownish, the inept, the bizarre be elected to the presidency with regularity.
Sarah Palin does not believe in evolution. I take this as a metaphor. In her world and the world of Fundamentalists nothing changes or gets better or evolves. She does not believe in global warming. The melting of the arctic, the storms that are destroying our cities, the pollution and rise of=2 0cancers, are all part of God's plan. She is fighting to take the polar bears off the endangered species list. The earth, in Palin's view, is here to be taken and plundered. The wolves and the bears are here to be shot and plundered. The oil is here to be taken and plundered. Iraq is here to be taken and plundered. As she said herself of the Iraqi war, "It was a task from God."
Sarah Palin does not believe in abortion. She does not believe women who are raped and incested and ripped open against their will should have a right to determine whether they have their rapist's baby or not.
She obviously does not believe in sex education or birth control. I imagine her daughter was practicing abstinence and we know how many babies that makes.
Sarah Palin does not much believe in thinking. From what I gather she has tried to ban books from the library, has a tendency to dispense with people who think independently. She cannot tolerate an environment of ambiguity and difference. This is a woman who could and might very well be the next president of the United States. She would govern one of the most diverse populations on the earth.
Sarah believes in guns. She has her own custom Austrian hunting rifle. She has been known to kill 40 caribou at a clip. She has shot hundreds of wolves from the air.
Sarah believes in God. That is of course her right, her private right. But when God and Guns come together in20the public sector, when war is declared in God's name, when the rights of women are denied in his name, that is the end of separation of church and state and the undoing of everything America has ever tried to be.
I write to my sisters. I write because I believe we hold this election in our hands. This vote is a vote that will determine the future not just of the U.S., but of the planet. It will determine whether we create policies to save the earth or make it forever uninhabitable for humans. It will determine whether we move towards dialogue and diplomacy in the world or whether we escalate violence through invasion, undermining and attack. It will determine whether we go for oil, strip mining, coal burning or invest our money in alternatives that will free us from dependency and destruction. It will determine if money gets spent on education and healthcare or whether we build more and more methods of killing. It will determine whether America is a free open tolerant society or a closed place of fear, fundamentalism and aggression.
If the Polar Bears don't move you to go and do everything in your power to get Obama elected then consider the chant that filled the hall after Palin spoke at the RNC, "Drill Drill Drill." I think of teeth when I think of drills. I think of rape. I think of destruction. I think of domination. I think of military exercises that force mindless repetition, emptying the brain of analysis, doubt, ambiguity or dissent. I think of pain.
Do we want a future of drilling? More holes in the ozone, in the floor of the sea, more holes in our thinking, in the trust between nations and peoples, more holes in the fabric of this precious thing we call life?

UCBW Local 181...
Well I am now on a bowling team! A BROADWAY bowling team with "In the Heights," to be exact :)
We are the "Underage Cousins of Bodega Workers" (if you've seen the show you'll understand) and our motto is "Free soda or we walk!"
We had our first week this Thursday night after the show and can I just say that my love for the show and my job grew 1000 times! Much of the cast showed up to watch and hang out, a few of them are actually on the team, including the star of the show, Lin! He was one of the highlights of my night, starting with when I walked over to our lanes and he came up to me and gave me a hug! We all continued to goof around all night, which made it even more fun :)
So the cast members who I was mingling with the most were of course, Rogelio and Shaun Taylor-Corbett (who is the reason the second game ROCKED), Krysta Rodriguez, Michael Balderrama, Robin de Jesus, Rickey Tripp and Lin. The others who were there were Priscilla Lopez, Janet Dacal (the two of them were talking and drinking all night and P.Lo kept smiling at me hehe) and Karen Olivo. The last 3 I listed, plus Robin, aren't on the team, but were there (I think it was for the drinks haha)...
Anyway, the first game was kind of painful for Krysta and I...we tied for the lowest score of 66...I knew getting a strike in the first frame was a bad sign...lame. The second game, however, was MUCH better! For about half of the game, Shaun and I were tied. Which of course, caused competition like no other! The words "Bring it!" were exchanged several times between us, which made us focus more and actually making us better! But in the end, I won. HAHAHA SHAUN!!! 116-111 :)
I am so excited for the rest of the season! I am so glad I don't have classes on Fridays! It was obviously meant to be :) But yeah, if you're not doing anything on Thursday night at 11:30 and want to go to Port Authority to the bowling alley, come watch us Broadway folk try and bowl! I can guarantee a good time!

Oh and here is a friendly reminder...(I'm 2nd from the bottom):

so true...
A winter statistic:
98% OF AMERICANS SCREAM BEFORE GOING IN THE DITCH ON A SLIPPERY ROAD. THE OTHER 2% ARE FROM COLORADO AND THEY SAY, 'HOLD MY SODA AND WATCH THIS.
YOU KNOW YOU'RE FROM COLORADO IF----
You're from Colorado if You'll eat ice cream in the winter.
No matter what the summer weather report says, you still have your winter coat in the car.
It snows 5 inches and you don't expect school to be cancelled.
You'll wear flip flops every day of the year, regardless of temperature.
You have no accent at all, but can hear other people's. And then you make fun of them.
'Humid' is over 20%.
Your sense of direction is: Toward the mountains and Away from the mountains.
You say 'the interstate' and everybody knows which one.
You think that May is a totally normal month for a blizzard.
You buy your flowers to set out on Mother's day, but try and hold off planting them until just before Father's day.
You grew up planning your Halloween costumes around your coat.
You know what the Continental Divide is.
You don't think Coors beer is that big a deal.
You went to Casa Bonita as a kid, and as an adult.
You've gone off-roading in a vehicle that was never intended for such activities.
You always know the elevation of where you are.
You wake up to a beautiful, 80 degree day and you wonder if it's going to snow tomorrow.
You don't care what some company renamed it. ** The Broncos still play at Mile High Stadium**
Every movie theater has military and student discounts.
Everybody wears jeans to church.
You actually know that ** South Park ** is a real place not just a show on TV.
You know what a 'trust fund hippie' is, and you know its natural habitat is Boulder .
You know you're talking to a fellow Coloradoan when they call it Elitches, not Six Flags.
A bear on your front porch doesn't bother you.
Your two favorite teams are the Broncos and whoever is beating up the Raiders.
When people out East tell you they have mountains in their state too, you just laugh.
You go anywhere else on the planet and the air feels 'sticky' and you notice the sky is no longer blue.
You see a highway sign for "CO SPGS" and you know what it means.
