my mother may hate me for this...

This is a piece written by Eve Ensler (The Vagina Monologues), shared with us on Idina's fan page...my mom will hate me for agreeing with this, but I do. Sarah Palin is scary...

By Eve Ensler (activist, feminist, author)

"I am having Sarah Palin nightmares. I dreamt last night that she was a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears. Maybe it's their snowy whiteness or their bigness or the fact that they live in the arctic or that I have never seen one in person or touched one. Maybe it is the fact that they live so comfortably on ice. Whatever it is, I need the polar bears.

I don't like raging at women. I am a Feminist and have spent my life trying to build community, help empower women and stop violence against them. It is hard to write about Sarah Palin. This is why the Sarah Palin choice was all the more insidious and cynical. The people who made this choice count on the goodness and solidarity of Feminists.

But everything Sarah Palin believes in and practices is antithetical to Feminism which for me is part of one story -- connected to saving the earth, ending racism, empowering women, giving young girls options, opening our minds, deepening tolerance, and ending violence and war.

I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket is one of the most dangerous choices of my lifetime, and should this country chose those candidates the fall-out may be so great, the destruction so vast in so many areas that America may never recover. But what is equally disturbing is the impact that duo would have on the rest of the world. Unfortunately, this is not a joke. In my lifetime I have seen the clownish, the inept, the bizarre be elected to the presidency with regularity.

Sarah Palin does not believe in evolution. I take this as a metaphor. In her world and the world of Fundamentalists nothing changes or gets better or evolves. She does not believe in global warming. The melting of the arctic, the storms that are destroying our cities, the pollution and rise of=2 0cancers, are all part of God's plan. She is fighting to take the polar bears off the endangered species list. The earth, in Palin's view, is here to be taken and plundered. The wolves and the bears are here to be shot and plundered. The oil is here to be taken and plundered. Iraq is here to be taken and plundered. As she said herself of the Iraqi war, "It was a task from God."

Sarah Palin does not believe in abortion. She does not believe women who are raped and incested and ripped open against their will should have a right to determine whether they have their rapist's baby or not.

She obviously does not believe in sex education or birth control. I imagine her daughter was practicing abstinence and we know how many babies that makes.

Sarah Palin does not much believe in thinking. From what I gather she has tried to ban books from the library, has a tendency to dispense with people who think independently. She cannot tolerate an environment of ambiguity and difference. This is a woman who could and might very well be the next president of the United States. She would govern one of the most diverse populations on the earth.

Sarah believes in guns. She has her own custom Austrian hunting rifle. She has been known to kill 40 caribou at a clip. She has shot hundreds of wolves from the air.

Sarah believes in God. That is of course her right, her private right. But when God and Guns come together in20the public sector, when war is declared in God's name, when the rights of women are denied in his name, that is the end of separation of church and state and the undoing of everything America has ever tried to be.

I write to my sisters. I write because I believe we hold this election in our hands. This vote is a vote that will determine the future not just of the U.S., but of the planet. It will determine whether we create policies to save the earth or make it forever uninhabitable for humans. It will determine whether we move towards dialogue and diplomacy in the world or whether we escalate violence through invasion, undermining and attack. It will determine whether we go for oil, strip mining, coal burning or invest our money in alternatives that will free us from dependency and destruction. It will determine if money gets spent on education and healthcare or whether we build more and more methods of killing. It will determine whether America is a free open tolerant society or a closed place of fear, fundamentalism and aggression.

If the Polar Bears don't move you to go and do everything in your power to get Obama elected then consider the chant that filled the hall after Palin spoke at the RNC, "Drill Drill Drill." I think of teeth when I think of drills. I think of rape. I think of destruction. I think of domination. I think of military exercises that force mindless repetition, emptying the brain of analysis, doubt, ambiguity or dissent. I think of pain.

Do we want a future of drilling? More holes in the ozone, in the floor of the sea, more holes in our thinking, in the trust between nations and peoples, more holes in the fabric of this precious thing we call life?

UCBW Local 181...

Well I am now on a bowling team! A BROADWAY bowling team with "In the Heights," to be exact :)

We are the "Underage Cousins of Bodega Workers" (if you've seen the show you'll understand) and our motto is "Free soda or we walk!"

We had our first week this Thursday night after the show and can I just say that my love for the show and my job grew 1000 times! Much of the cast showed up to watch and hang out, a few of them are actually on the team, including the star of the show, Lin! He was one of the highlights of my night, starting with when I walked over to our lanes and he came up to me and gave me a hug! We all continued to goof around all night, which made it even more fun :)

So the cast members who I was mingling with the most were of course, Rogelio and Shaun Taylor-Corbett (who is the reason the second game ROCKED), Krysta Rodriguez, Michael Balderrama, Robin de Jesus, Rickey Tripp and Lin. The others who were there were Priscilla Lopez, Janet Dacal (the two of them were talking and drinking all night and P.Lo kept smiling at me hehe) and Karen Olivo. The last 3 I listed, plus Robin, aren't on the team, but were there (I think it was for the drinks haha)...

Anyway, the first game was kind of painful for Krysta and I...we tied for the lowest score of 66...I knew getting a strike in the first frame was a bad sign...lame. The second game, however, was MUCH better! For about half of the game, Shaun and I were tied. Which of course, caused competition like no other! The words "Bring it!" were exchanged several times between us, which made us focus more and actually making us better! But in the end, I won. HAHAHA SHAUN!!! 116-111 :)

I am so excited for the rest of the season! I am so glad I don't have classes on Fridays! It was obviously meant to be :) But yeah, if you're not doing anything on Thursday night at 11:30 and want to go to Port Authority to the bowling alley, come watch us Broadway folk try and bowl! I can guarantee a good time!

so true...

A winter statistic:
98% OF AMERICANS SCREAM BEFORE GOING IN THE DITCH ON A SLIPPERY ROAD. THE OTHER 2% ARE FROM COLORADO AND THEY SAY, 'HOLD MY SODA AND WATCH THIS.

YOU KNOW YOU'RE FROM COLORADO IF----

You're from Colorado if You'll eat ice cream in the winter.

No matter what the summer weather report says, you still have your winter coat in the car.

It snows 5 inches and you don't expect school to be cancelled.

You'll wear flip flops every day of the year, regardless of temperature.

You have no accent at all, but can hear other people's. And then you make fun of them.

'Humid' is over 20%.

Your sense of direction is: Toward the mountains and Away from the mountains.

You say 'the interstate' and everybody knows which one.

You think that May is a totally normal month for a blizzard.

You buy your flowers to set out on Mother's day, but try and hold off planting them until just before Father's day.

You grew up planning your Halloween costumes around your coat.

You know what the Continental Divide is.

You don't think Coors beer is that big a deal.

You went to Casa Bonita as a kid, and as an adult.

You've gone off-roading in a vehicle that was never intended for such activities.

You always know the elevation of where you are.

You wake up to a beautiful, 80 degree day and you wonder if it's going to snow tomorrow.

You don't care what some company renamed it. ** The Broncos still play at Mile High Stadium**

Every movie theater has military and student discounts.

Everybody wears jeans to church.

You actually know that ** South Park ** is a real place not just a show on TV.

You know what a 'trust fund hippie' is, and you know its natural habitat is Boulder .

You know you're talking to a fellow Coloradoan when they call it Elitches, not Six Flags.

A bear on your front porch doesn't bother you.

Your two favorite teams are the Broncos and whoever is beating up the Raiders.

When people out East tell you they have mountains in their state too, you just laugh.

You go anywhere else on the planet and the air feels 'sticky' and you notice the sky is no longer blue.

You see a highway sign for "CO SPGS" and you know what it means.

7.22.2008

the rockette blog.

Last night, as my cab drove me by Radio City Music Hall, I started to well up with tears...

You know I have been dancing for my entire life. I ate, slept and breathed dance nearly every day for the past 15 years. Most of my childhood memories include dance: recitals, class, dancing in the backyard. I moved out here to New York City expecting to continue, to dance almost every day. Well unexpected things happened: crazy class schedules, work, the dance schedules not being perfect for my schedule, but still I managed to take class at least once a week (including the dance class for school). There were times I wished I was a dance major and thought about auditioning, just so I could dance every day. Then in January and early February I took class 2 or 3 times a week.

Then I stopped dancing altogether. My class schedule took me until the early afternoon and then I had time for homework, then work at my new job at Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. I didn't want to quit. I knew I wasn't quitting forever, either. I just hadn't had a break in about 15 years, and I think it was much needed. I wished that I had my mom here so she could make me make the trek across the park and take class. But she wasn't here. No one was. I had to figure out what I wanted to do on my own.

I signed up for the Rockette Summer Intensive for the 5th time, knowing that it would get me back into the swing of things. I planned to take classes before it started, but hardly got the chance.

So I began this week, at the Summer Intensive. On Sunday I felt completely comfortable and at home seeing the face of Eileen, the Rockette who has been there for me all 5 years. Also Stevi, who was our favorite Rockette last year. They are so supportive and really want us to succeed. Sunday night after class I felt wonderful. I knew I was going to be sore, but I felt alive again.

Last night Stevi gave the same speech she did last year, but this year had a much different effect on me. She started by saying that we have already beaten out hundreds if not thousands of people to get into this class, and more and more try every year. She said that we have come so far and we are closer than most people will ever get to being a Rockette. She said we can all make it if we want to. She said how you can be in 50 different Broadway shows and people say "Oh really...Which ones?" But you can say you are a Radio City Rockette and their expression is more recognition and awe. It is so much more impressive...

I'm sure I wasn't the only one tearing up, I think my friend Lezlie did too. But after yesterday being frustrated in class because we weren't picking up the steps, this speech hit me harder.

The next audition is August 5th. I am going. So many people have told me I'll get in and blah blah blah, but I'm not going to do it so people can see me on that stage. I am going to do it for me. Because the emotions that rush over me when I am standing on the stage at Radio City, or even just driving by the brilliant blue and red lights at eleven o'clock at night, are like no Broadway show has ever made me feel...

visiting friends are dangerous...

So my favorite twins, Jenn and Stacy, came to visit me this weekend. We had a great time together and it was really good to see them since I don't get to too often. But I learned one thing that is bad...

Even though they paid for a couple drinks for me and then bought me breakfast Sunday morning, my bank account that had about $150-200 in it had transformed to a big $7. Yeah. I know. (Mom please don't yell)

It's just so hard because I haven't been paid at work for 2 weeks now, since we are being paid by check every 2 weeks. The check idea is a good thing for me, because then I will drop it straight in the bank and won't spend as much. But I am really screwed for the next 3 days...As soon as I get the word that my check is done I will run straight to that office and pick it up! (It should be about $700 if commissions are included!)

In other news, my phone is becoming the bane of my existence. It likes to drain the battery occasionally (and unexpectedly), likes to randomly not let me text people, most recently has not let me call people...ugh. I'm done. Once I have money again I will be getting a New York number with AT&T and get an iphone. But if I have learned one thing from the SATC movie, I won't be able to be a 917 girl...I'll have to be a 347...which makes me sad. (Partly because 917 is backwards of 719 which is Colorado Springs' area code...and that would have been cool) But hey, maybe I'll get lucky...

Oh and probably the biggest (and actually good) news is I will be doing the Rockette Summer Intensive next week!!! Yay!!! My buddy Rogelio from ITH may be coming to watch if he doesn't have rehearsal, though I probably won't have any other friends coming since it's $35 and my family won't be able to make it :(

far too long..

It has been far too long since I last updated this blog, and a lot has changed. Some good, some bad, everything happens for a reason. That's really what I've started to live by. I have decided that things will come and go and in the end everything will work out and you can't hold on to things too hard that aren't meant to be.

In other news, I'm now working 8 shows a week at ITH, and loving it. Though my problem now is that whenever anyone in the real world says something, a word or phrase triggers my heights button and I burst out in song or with a line from the show. I am taking medication and seeing someone about this problem.

:)

6.09.2008

oh yeah...

I forgot to say how my trip was...

I was really excited to see Kikko and he was extremely happy to see me too! I basically cuddled and played with him 24/7.

I went to my old dance studio's dance recitals on Saturday and it was very strange sitting in the audience for once and not having 2390482 quick changes and having everyone tell me they enjoyed "The Jen Show". After the matinee, I went to the lobby and tried to say hi to everyone, and only a few people knew I was coming, so there were many screams and many people running over to me and hugging me, which felt absolutely wonderful :) I love my girls. I missed them so much and they have all gotten so much better in just a year! It was good to see the teachers too, though 3 of my favorites are no longer there :( But I talked Jose, the hip-hop teacher, into coming to visit me and auditioning, or at least seeing, In the Heights. He would be fierce in it. He's just a fierce person. :)

Anyway, Sunday I went to Starbucks to meet up with Renee and Chelsea like old times, and we talked for almost 2 and a half hours, plus a photoshoot hehe...then I came home and we went out to dinner to celebrate father's day and totally got ditched by the waitress. Ugh. I hate bad service.

It was hard to say goodbye to Kikko without shoving him in my suitcase and taking him with me! But I'll see him again in August, when he will never leave my side!

.jmm.

back in the citayyy!

So today was relatively uneventful.

I woke up early. Finished the book I was reading so I didn't have to carry it back with me. Took a shower, got dressed, finished packing, said goodbye to my dad and Kikko and my mom and I were on our way to the airport. Once we got there, it was very nerve-wracking to see if I got on the flight I hoped to get on...There were 14 people trying to get on the plane supposedly, and there were supposedly 2 seats. Uh-oh! Well they let 3 people on after everyone had boarded and my mom and I were trying to think of what to do. But luckily, they weren't done. I was the next one called and I got on the plane and got a WINDOW SEAT! So exciting for standby :) The only bad part was that the 2 people next to me slept for almost the whole flight, so I felt bad when I had to pee and when I realized that my ipod and water bottle were in the bag I had put up in the overhead bin over row 16 (I was in 21). But it was a pretty smooth flight and I was on the side of the plane that I could see the Manhattan skyline coming in :)

It's 95 degrees here. Or was at least. But I lugged about 50 lbs worth of bags up 6 flights of stairs and then cranked the A/C and sat right where the A/C hits the couch for about an hour before I unpacked.

Now I'm nice and cool and I just wish I had some ice cream. But I have chocolate. It melted in the cabinet because it's so hot, but it wasn't too bad, just soft, so I stuck it in the fridge. We'll see how it is :)

6.04.2008

this is my 45th post.

So really I think only Tom and my mother read this blog. And they constantly bug me about updating it. If Tom would freaking get one and update his, then maybe it would give me some motivation...But no.

So right now I am in Alamogordo, New Mexico, visiting my biffle, Valerie! Very exciting haha...I've had a really good time, it's been great seeing her again! Her new house is very cute and COLORFUL. She painted every room a different color, including bright red in the entryway! Sadie (her dog) is crazy and thinks she is a quarter of the size she actually is, and Frazier (her cat) is the kind of cat that makes me hate cats haha (he bites me every time I try and pet him...I'm too used to Tom's cats)

There is nothing, and I repeat NOTHING out here, except for a bunch of places to eat haha...I have had my Sonic and Taco Bell fix for at least a day or two, but I have to say I could never live out in the middle of nowhere like this. And I could never take the heat of the New Mexico desert! It's been in the high 90s/low 100s and yes, it gets really windy which feels nice, but when I want to go tan, the wind stops. Ugh.

Oh well, I should get to bed, I have to leave realllly early tomorrow morning to catch the shuttle to the airport and then my plane to Denver!

5.26.2008

tom is a butthead.

Yesterday sucked. But I'm really glad that I have Denny around when I need to talk. He's a pretty cool guy.

Now Tom, on the other hand is LAME. L-A-M-E. Yeah.

:)

5.24.2008

so tom will stop being mad at me for never updating...

I had a really good day today.
Friends are good things.
I'm excited for next week, even though I will be working constantly. Not like I didn't work over 15 hours just at Matt's office this week, plus In the Heights every show so far.
But that means moolah!!! :)
I'm down in Jer-to-the-Z right now, we are seeing the new Indiana Jones movie tomorrow. So we are catching up on the first 3 tonight and tomorrow. (watched the first one on Wednesday)
Well gonna go watch the 2nd one so Tom stops sighing that I'm too busy.
Goodnight.

5.12.2008

it's only halfway through may and i am already out of money...

My mom just flew halfway across the country to come see me!
I apparently have already run out of my $250 limit for this month. Stupid new apartment.
I am watching Tom and Kate Plus 8 and I don't ever wanna have 8 kids. Or 7. Or 6. Or 5. Or 4.
Tom and my mom have been bugging me to update this blog. Apparently they have no lives except for reading this.
KIDDING!!!
I like oyster crackers.
I want a puppy dog.
Tommy's oma is so freaking adorable. She's fantastic.
I want to go shoe shopping.
I need sundresses.
I need money.
I need to take my contacts out.
I feel like my legs and butt are better already from these 6 flights of stairs! Wahoo!
I'm getting sleepier as I type this.
Summer officially starts for me on Wednesday afternoon!
Yay.
Ok done.
Buh-bye.

4.30.2008

locked out.

So today was just superfantastic. Yeah. Right.

I had an okay day at school, though I was extremely tired (don't know why) but I got 6 prints (aka half of my portfolio project that is due next week which i was very far behind on) done. Strawberry Fest was outside after class and it was fun, though I came a couple hours into it, so I missed out on the really cool bright green CAB bags. But I got some yummy FREE cotton candy! I would have participated in the fun inflatable and rock climbing things but I didn't know where any of my good friends were (turns out they were working or going on job interviews). Oh well, next year.

But anyway I come home to find my top lock (the deadbolt) pretty much dangling from the door of my apartment. FUN! So I freaked out for a minute (or 20) trying to get in and trying to put the lock back together, trying to break in, etc. No luck. And of course, I hadn't put the super OR the landlord's phone numbers in my phone. Great. So after calling my mom to ask for suggestions on what to do, she went online and found the landlord's number, so I called him and he was shocked about what happened, and gave me the super's number. Well this guy hardly speaks English, and after explaining to him what had happened, he said he would be there within an hour. Good thing I didn't hold my breath! Well I had texted Jenny, the former tenant, and she said there is a locksmith on the corner, so I went and they said someone would be there in 45 minutes or an hour. They didn't lie! Pretty much exactly 45 minutes after I went there, the locksmith walked up! So he drilled a hole in the existing lock and used a bunch of tools to basically break in, then took that lock out, put on a new one, plus a metal shield so that it really can't be broken into. So $345 of my mom's money later, I have a nice new lock on my door! At least I feel safer lol...

As we speak I am setting up cable and wireless internet so I will finally feel at home. :) The bad news, their first time they can come set it up is TUESDAY. Ugh. Bad news. Gross. Oh well...

Oh and Tuesday is also the Rockette audition. Hmm...wonder how that's gonna go. I hope I'm not hacking up a lung during it...and I also kinda hope I get cut early. I know that's bad to say, but I would rather they cut me early then have me go through the entire thing and not get called this summer. Plus I really would only want to be hired this year if I could stay in NYC. And I'm working so hard with my schedule to get all of my required courses done ASAP so that if I do get hired in the next couple years, I don't have to spend a couple extra years in school. Ugh. Decisions decisions. One thing I know for sure - I need to get a cute leotard to wear!!!! Mommy? Wanna pay?! I love you! :)

Well thats all I have to say at the moment...I've gotta get back to work in a few minutes, I'm at South Pacific. I made over $800 on my own from walk in and intermission! Let's hope I get $200 on walk out so I can make $1000 on my own!!! :)

.jmm.

4.28.2008

new apartment!!!

I am right now sitting on my bed in my new apartment! It is really messy right now with the mess of bags and boxes I need to put away, but it's nice. :) Tom helped me move in last night and we are both dead after going up and down 6 flights of stairs probably close to 25 or 30 times...not funnnn. But it's on its way...

4.12.2008

thunderstorm in nyc.

One thing I don't think I will ever get over is how strange it is to witness a thunderstorm in New York City. The lightening is really no big deal to me, I just think it is pretty, but the thunder, especially in the middle of the day, can sometimes get very creepy. I have always loved thunderstorms - I sleep better when I fall asleep to the rain - just as long as the power doesn't go out while I am walking around. And there's another booming thunder over the sounds of the city. It echoes. I think that's one of the reasons why it is fascinating to me...

Well this is random and pretty much just word vomit.

Good news: I have an appointment to make a down payment and first month's rent and all that jazz on an apartment that I will be sharing with my friend Melanie. I ask that you knock on tons and tons of wood, for I thought I had this all settled last night, and well, some of us know how that went...But anyway, today got better as it went on and here's to a great weekend and not being homeless! :)

.jmm.

4.11.2008

what a day.

apartment hunting sucks.
but luckily many people are looking for apartments
including a new friend who also loves gilmore girls.
gg parties, anyone?!
anyway let's hope this time it works out...
i think we'll be going to visit the perfect place tomorrow.
and then maybe going as far as filling out the application and paperwork.
so let's hope this works!

.jmm.

4.09.2008

oh dilemmas...

1. Gilmore Girls is horrible right now. I am on the last season, almost halfway through. And Lorelai and Christopher are married. WTF?!?!?! She was made for Luke. Not him. Seriously. Ugh.

2. Apartment hunting has commenced. I am searching with my friend Kathleen, who is the spitting image of my best friend. Kinda freaky. But cool. I think it will work out well *knock on wood*. Anyway, we have a whole bunch of possibilities for 2 bedrooms...yeah. Let's hope we find one that is perfect and below $2000 a month!

3. I can't believe my freshman year is almost over. Crazy how fast that flew by. Good times. I hope every year flies by this fast, but then again I don't really want to go to the real world yet...

4. I have an amazing new friend, Ralph, at In the Heights. He is a total sweetheart and approves of Tom, too. :) He throws kick ass halloween parties apparently, and I have already been invited. Plus he also invited us to Lake George for his birthday weekend, and get this, it's all going to be free. This guy is great. :) A great guy to talk to and he likes to feed me!

Well I'm going to finish up some Gilmore Girls, have a quick iChat with Tommy and then head off to beddy by!

4.06.2008

chuck norris is BAMF

I used to think all those Chuck Norris jokes were pretty lame...but they have kind of grown on me. Tom and I went to the Virgin megastore on my break from work yesterday and, though I didn't want to spend any money, I ended up spending $10 for a book chock full of Chuck Norris jokes.

A few prime examples for your entertainment...

1. Chuck Norris got drunk and fucked the Statue of Liberty, then bragged about it to the Lincoln Memorial.
2. Ever see the Grand Canyon? Chuck Norris had nothing to do with it, he just went there on a family vacation.
3. Occasionally Chuck Norris will call up the Power Rangers just to say hi.
4. Chuck Norris eats pencils and markers for breakfast, and he shits out masterpieces.
5. Chuck Norris can stop time for up to two hours by thinking about pineapples.
6. Chuck Norris was the first person to tame a dinosaur.
7. If Chuck Norris had a dollar and you had a dollar, Chuck Norris would kick your ass and take your dollar.
8. Chuck Norris will never be fully male nor female. Doctors once asked him which he preferred. He gave them an ad for Total Gym.
9. Chuck Norris began the Church of England in 1799, back when his nickname was "England."
10. Chuck Norris can make a woman climax by simply pointing at her and saying, "Booya."
11. Chuck Norris invented the measurement, the "yard," as it was much easier to say than "Hi, my name is Chuck Norris and my dick is three feet long."
12. Chuck Norris once inhaled a seagull.
13. Chuck Norris doesn't believe in Germany.
14. Rainbows are what happens when Chuck Norris roundhouse kicks Richard Simmons.
15. Superman owns a pair of Chuck Norris pajamas.
16. Chuck Norris can slam a revolving door.
17. Chuck Norris once roundhouse kicked Bruce Lee, breaking him in half. The result was Jet Li and Jackie Chan.

i'm a love bug.

I was sent a personality quiz website from my mother, and my results were so dead-on, I decided to post them...

Personality: Moods ---> Easy Rider

You're a bit of a romantic and have a taste for the exotic. You love feeling the sea breeze in your hair, sun on your skin...slip those shoes off...you like to kick back. When it comes to art, you have a traditional eye. You are passionate about history and skills that have been around for centuries, you believe truly great art stands the test of time. As for music, it's the soundtrack to your world. You like to unwind and switch off: it gives you a break from reality. Your choice of treat shows you love being a little bit naughty. Being good all the time is a bore. You've got a good sense of fun and maybe an infectious giggle.

Personality: Fun ---> Escape Artist

You love to be far away from your everyday life. You love the sun, and like to live life at a slower pace than most - you know how to take things nice and easy! For kicks you like to indulge in your great passions. You are probably happy spending time alone, and your drive and curiosity will take you all over the world. When it comes to holidays, you'll go anywhere as long as there's sea and sand and then you'll just stay put. You can't always be bothered with any activities or trailing round tourist sites. Holidays are about recharging the batteries. What grosses you out? You like people to be well groomed, with a tight bod and heaps of sex appeal. Wobbly bits and hairy areas are a complete turn off. (The second to last sentence isn't completely true)

Personality: Habits ---> Back to Basics

You can never get enough attention or affection. (Now THAT is hella true) A bit of a one track mind some might say. You like to think you're a devil in the sack, no talk and plenty of action! (heh heh) Your choice of drink reflects your classic taste - yes you're a bit of a glamorous one. You probably like to get dressed up, go out, and be seen! As for the home, you have very cool and contemporary taste. You have a simple approach to style, but you like things to have their place.

Personality: Love ---> Love Bug

For you love is about long-term commitment, it means devotion and tenderness. When you think of freedom - you think of living for the here and now. You're pretty fearless and take any opportunity given to you.

Pretty spot-on, eh? Kinda scary. Well if you want to take the test for yourself, click here.

hey my boyfriend kicks serious ass.

So he took me to Disneyworld!

Quite a long story of how I found out...so I'll leave that for later because I'm exhausted.

I don't want to leave Florida though. It's so warm here. And everything is so cheap. I am really surprised I'm saying it, but besides the Broadway shows, I am a little sick of NYC...wow.

i <3 tanlines.

I am now very tan :)

We spent Sunday, Tuesday and today at the beach. Clearwater beach is freaking gorgeous. And there aren't 32094203942038423 tourists there to crowd the beach either. The sand is like powdered sugar, which is nice to walk on, but when it's windy, it also blows everywhere and you end up eating a lot of sand...yuck. But it was nice and now we both have some nice color, but I WIN!!! I finally win something besides Uno and thumb wrestling FAIR AND SQUARE! wahoo!!!!

So our plan for tomorrow is...I HAVE NO IDEA! He won't tell me. I am thinking it is Disneyworld or Sea World or Universal Studios because the hints I have gotten are: we will be doing a lot of walking, there won't be much shade, we are going to get there when it opens, which means we will be leaving at 6, so it takes 2 hours to get there about...um..I asked if I should wear a bathing suit or just shorts, and he said that we can get wet if I want, but we could also stay completely dry, which also goes with the shoes we should wear (flip flops or tennis shoes?)...Basically I really don't know. It's kind of fun, but it's also killing me. Oh. AND he wants to blindfold me for the entire drive so I am really surprised when we get there...I don't really like that idea...hmm..

Well since I will be getting up at 5am, I am going to peace out now. Nighty night!

my toes are in the sand...

So Tom and I got to Florida Saturday night. His aunt picked us up at the airport and we drove about an hour to her house in Spring Hills. I really have no idea where we are haha...but I do know that it takes about 45 minutes to get to the beach we went to first yesterday, which was nice. Small, and the sand was full of shells, but it was nice to be by the water. We went to Clearwater beach later, though, and omg. The sand there is like powdered sugar! So smooth. Amazing. We went to Clearwater to see the sunset but when we got there, fog was rolling in from the ocean. It was like something out of a horror movie, seriously. There was a boat on the water and then all the sudden we couldn't see it anymore. We stopped being able to see the hotels on the shore and soon we couldn't tell the sand from the sky because we couldn't see the water! Freaky.

I'll post pictures later, when my internet connection doesn't suck. :)

broadway knows how to party!

So last night was the opening night party for In the Heights on Broadway! I was invited and of course I went. Now, I was expecting a big room full of people and an open bar, possibly a dance floor also. What was actuality, however, was so much better!

We met our boss at the theatre right after the show ended, and just walking into the theatre, I spotted Sutton Foster, Anthony Rapp and Stephen Schwartz. I knew it would be a good night. :) So we got on the shuttle bus that took us to the party, along with Natalie Cortez (Morales in A Chorus Line).

The party was at Chelsea Piers, at Pier 60, it was at the end of one of the docks, in a huuuuuge building. We went in, checked our coats, gave the guys our tickets, and headed in to the par-tay. The room was a big L shape, with probably 7 or 8 bars around the outside, a dance floor, a bunch of tables on one side, and long tables along the outside with amazing food on them. We went into one of the food lines first, got pork and rice, which were both absolutely delicious. As soon as we walked in, we were handed drinks by a waiter. No idea what was in them, but they were good! A few of us headed to the big bar after we ate and got drinks (Malibu and cranberry juice is PHENOMENAL!) and then we decided to wander around the room. On the dance floor, a few people were salsa dancing to the salsa band that was playing, who kept playing great songs. At the far end of the room was the "In the Heights" backdrop that they use when the stars come in to take pictures. Well at this point, this place was packed. We couldn't get within 20 feet of it because of the gridlock. So we just wandered a little bit more.

Right off the bat, I saw Charlotte d'Amboise (Also from A Chorus Line. I hate to say it, but she's aged a lot in the past couple years), many many familiar faces, but I wouldn't be able to tell you what show or what their name is. I'll try and remember who else I saw: Noah Weisberg (Legally Blonde original cast), of course the entire ITH cast, Lisa Lambert (one of the writers of The Drowsy Chaperone) was dancing next to me for a while, Bob Martin was talking to Troy Britton Johnson (both Drowsy OBC/Bob wrote it), Asmeret Ghebremichael (Legally Blonde OBC/ITH Off-Broadway cast) and Stephen Schwartz, who I pretty much freaked after we made eye contact a few times...um...I can't think of any more right off hand that I just saw and didn't talk to. We decided to break our cool and take a picture with Anthony Rapp, because many of the cast members were, too, so we didn't feel like idiots. After scanning the room for any more familiar faces, we headed back to the dance floor.

We danced up a storm. I was wearing 5 1/2 heels, so my feet started killing me about 1am, but I kept them on and kept dancing! Well after a little bit of dancing, my friend and co-worker Kyle goes "OHMYGOD THAT'S SARA RAMIREZ!" I recognized the name but couldn't think of the face, and then suddenly I looked and saw her! (Callie from Grey's Anatomy and OBC and Tony winner of Spamalot) (If you want to see how amazing she is EVEN WHEN SICK(!), watch this) So anyway, we needed to get a picture with her, for she is fierce, so we headed over to where she was. She headed to the bar so we waited for her to get her drink, and then greet one of the ITH cast members, and I, being the one with the "most balls" of Shelley, Kyle and myself, tapped Sara on the shoulder as she was about to walk away, and I said "I am sooo sorry to bother you, but could we possibly have a picture?" and she, being a total sweetheart, was like "Of course! Don't worry about it!" and she took pictures with both me and Shelley (I'll post all of the pictures from the night once I steal Shelley's). She stood there for a minute while we thanked her, just in case we wanted to start a conversation, and then we all headed towards the dance floor.

We danced with our boss and the few co-workers who were there for a while, my boss being the most intoxicated haha. He's so cool. And a very white dancer. But we still had a great time making fools out of ourselves and then when he was leaving, all putting our hands in and cheering "GOOOOO MERCH!" yeah. Real cool there.

After a while, Sara also came on the dance floor, right by us, and let's just say that girl's gotta have some black in her! FABULOUS dancer! Someone dropped a glass, shattering it, and she, being a nice person, got down and helped pick up the millions (okay exaggerating) of little pieces of glass. Very cool. Well, I made it my goal for the rest of the night to actually dance with her, and that I did! :) At one point, the crowd made a circle and a few guys from the cast and a few others started break dancing and doing crazy hip hop moves. They seriously have no bones. It was so cool! So of course everyone stops dancing to watch these guys, and Sara comes right next to me, actually shoulder to shoulder and right behind Shelley! (Shelley spazzed out because Sara touched her butt hahaha) Anyway, while we are cheering the guys on, we look at each other and after a while we started dancing too. So I danced with Sara Ramirez. Hell yes.

So after that Shelley and I were thirsty and a little hungry too, so we went to one of the food tables and got the best ONION RINGS I have ever tasted! The onion was really thin or something, because I couldn't really taste it at all, but omg. So good. We went out to this separate room, sort of a patio, overlooking the water and Jersey. It was very nice. :)

Well after dancing for hours we got pretty tired and were going to leave once they played a song we didn't really like. Which of course didn't happen. But we started fading fast so we grabbed our purses and decided to leave while the party was still in full swing. On the way out, we grabbed our coats from the coat check and as we were walking out to the shuttle bus, they handed us amazing hot chocolate! The whole night was very high class. I hope this is the first of many opening night parties that I will be at, and hopefully soon, I will get to sit at the tables reserved for "CAST". :)

3.07.2008

this blog is about as random as they get.

1. I just got my schedule for next week: I am working In the Heights both Tuesday (no school Tuesday) and Wednesday nights! Which also means NO JUMP! Which also means I am very happy!

2. I have a bad headache right now and it just keeps getting worse.

3. I kind of want to transfer schools. And I also kind of want to audition for the dance program and maybe the theatre program too. But at the same time, I think many of my problems with this school would be solved if I didn't live in the dorm.

4. I don't like my photography class this semester. It's not nearly as fun as last semester, even though we have most of the same people and the same teacher. It's weird.

5. And #4 isn't helped any because there is a girl who is in two of my classes, including photography, and she is a total bitch. Sometimes she is nice to me, but she complains soooooo much. In our other class she doesn't really understand it and I have had experience so I pick everything up in it right away, but she is always like "Jen! Help meeeee" in a really whiney voice. And then in the other class the next day, she is a total bitch. If you want me to help you not fail the class, don't be a bitch to me. K?

6. Liz and I saw "My mother's Italian, My father's Jewish, and I'm in therapy" and the funniest part wasn't the play, it was funny, but not incredible. The best part was this lady sitting across the aisle from us. Oh my gosh. She was freaking hilarious! She looked sooo confused when the guy would begin a joke, and then it would take her a couple seconds once the joke was told, and she would look at her husband with big eyes and laugh, or she would cover her mouth and cackle, etc. It was priceless.

7. 8 days till FLORIDAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

8. My head hurts.

9. I want a PB&J sandwich. Actually I want Bagel Bites, but I have to be in a bikini in 8 days. Bagel Bites are on hold until I get back lol.

10. This blog better make Tom happy. I can barely see straight my head hurts so bad.

11. I hate it when people take your clothes out of the washer and put them randomly somewhere else. It's fucking bitchy and rude. Just because the timers on those things are off and 20 minutes is actually 34 or something, doesn't mean that the second someone's clothes are done you have the right to take them out and put them in a random dryer and turn it on. Hello, those were on the delicate setting so my sweaters and bras don't get ruined. I doubt you put them on the delicate setting. K thanks.

12. Rant is now over.

13. Going back to Gilmore Girls now. I will go downstairs and pick up my laundry EARLY from the dryer at 8pm. It probably won't be done until 8:15 officially, but it should be dry. And I don't want any bitches throwing it on the floor or something. Ugh.

14. Goodnight.

<3

May I just share with you how I have the sweetest boyfriend on the face of the earth?!

I just checked my facebook to find this, be jealous:

Yeah. He's a keeper. :)

.jmm.

in the heights...

Omg. I just had the best time working.
I worked at In the Heights today, for the first time, and all alone. Normally between 2-4 people work there at a time, depending on the night, but no. No one else could work today's matinee so I volunteered. And after being briefly trained last night during Act 2, I think I did pretty well!

Last night the final total was about $500 at the booth I was at. Today my total was $910. Yeah bitch.

So awesome. I got to watch most of the first act, but had to count my money 239482034 times during the second act. Phenomenal so far, though! I may see it next week if I have a night off, hopefully winning the lottery.

Well I should get on to Gilmore Girls. Because my life involves nothing more apparently.

Oh and PS: PROJECT RUNWAY FINALE TONIGHT!!!!!! 10/9c!!!!!! I'll be there. You best too. :)

.jmm.

grrrrrrr...

I swear. Someone is reading my mind and stealing all of my brilliant ideas.

It happened with The Devil Wears Prada, it happened with Gossip Girl, though not nearly as well, and now it is happening again.

When I read books, I always invision them as movies playing out in my head. And usually I am the main character. This just makes it way more fun. I just learned that Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella, who is one of my favorite authors, and it is my favorite series of books, is being made into a movie. Yes.

Am I in it? No.

Isla Fisher and Christine Ebersole apparently are though. Lucky bitches.

Don't get me wrong, I loooooove both of them. Add Amy Adams and there's my top 3 people I want to have lunch with.

I'm just very scared for the movie. I know it will probably be at least decent, as was TDWP, but still. It's not going to be exactly like I imagined it, that would be impossible. And now I'll never get to be in it. Unless, of course, they make it into a Broadway show. That would be weird.

Though maybe I should start practicing my British accent just in case...

i love my boyfriend.

And this post is just for him, to cure his boredom for at least a couple of minutes. Okay maybe more like 30 seconds...

So I have been working hard for my boss, working at Jump every weekend, much to my unhappiness and boredom with the show, and I have also been hired as his official photoshopper for the website, along with his bitch to run errands. I don't mind. I get paid. :)

And now, tonight, I am finally moving up in the world! I get to run as fast as I possibly can to Times Square after class and go train in the second act of In the Heights! Because tomorrow, matinee, I get to work it all by myself! (and normally 4 people work it so it will be interesting). But it will hopefully get me moved to that show at least once a week since I will have the training out of the way.

Whoo I'm excited!

And guess what! In 11 days, I will be in the nice, warm, FLORIDA air!!! And it will be even better because my boyfriend will be there too. :) I can't wait.

Well I need to get back to class now. But Tommy, I hope this cured your boredom for a few minutes... :-*

haven burton = love

So Haven Burton went on as Elle in Legally Blonde today for the first time. Let's just say she was phenomenal.

I saw the girl in Rent multiple times, but lbj I did not know she could sing like that! In Kate Shindle's words, "she may be the best singer in the building." Kate is crazy to leave herself out of that but yeah...it is definitely between the two of them.

The voice is incredible. The dancing isn't as good as LBB but is still decent enough to not make me gag hahaha...She did really well. And her comedic timing is dead on. Damn.

A few funny flubs: Haven's dress was coming off during "Ohmygod you guys", Warner's fly was unzipped during "Serious", Haven totally forgot her line about the charity work she did and luckily Bryce was genius enough to ask about the charities haha...yeah.

Good times. :)

i want to be amy adams.

I love Amy Adams so much. She was brilliant in Enchanted and I can't wait to see Mrs. Pettigrew! But I don't know what they were thinking at the Oscars.

Enchanted was nominated THREE TIMES for best song, and for some unknown to me reason, they chose Kristin Chenoweth to sing the best song in the movie.

Not cool..

Don't get me wrong, I ADORE Cheno. She's amazing and a total sweetheart. But I would have been much much happier if they had had Amy sing "That's How You Know" and Cheno sing "Happy Working Song", actually I would have been happiest if Amy sang both, but it's understandable that they wouldn't do that.

Anyway, see for yourself if you missed it.

Oh. And Miley Cyrus? So jealous of that girl. Love her to death, but grrrr...

thank you. *leaves soapbox*

let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

So this morning I woke up to a very foggy looking sight out my window on the 30th floor. As I looked closer, the tops of the other buildings were covered in snow, and lots of it! It was also snowing pretty hard and I really didn't want to crawl out of bed for my 4 hour and 20 minute art class with Mr. Monotone as I like to call him.

Waiting for the bus I got a little wet, but with my nice North Face coat, I stayed relatively warm. I zoned out for pretty much the entire class, looking out the window, watching the snow. It was gorgeous and made me think. But that's all for another blog :)

Anyway, when I finally got out of class at 2:20 they announced they were closing the school at 3 because it was supposed to be sleet and freezing rain after 4pm. It had stopped snowing at that point, but I was shocked when I got outside and saw this:

Yeah.
For Colorado, this wouldn't be much. But this is the most I have experienced in NYC yet. And I love it! :)

I'm just sad that I have to go to work tonight instead of going to Central Park for a snowball fight...

My mom has told me several times that she wants to see a picture of my boyfriend and I. Since there were only 2 or 3 in existence until Valentine's Day, none of which were too great, I didn't show her any.

But *drumroll please* now, for your viewing entertainment, a picture! Valentine's Day Central Park carriage ride, which was actually HIS idea! :)

2.19.2008

last night i had a dream...

WARNING: I have just been told that this dream was "on crack". And I don't really disagree haha...

Okay so I was at some CD store, it was like Virgin in Times Square, but set up differently inside. Anyway, there were a bunch of people browsing when I went inside and I noticed that one of the guys from Legally Blonde was right by me. So for some reason I had brought some of my CDs, including that one, and had him sign it. Then I kept just going down the line because they were all Broadway people, and apparently they had made "Juno" a musical because the girl I talked to a little later looked exactly like Ellen Page but had a lot of acne and said she was on Broadway in Juno. So anyway, I don't know exactly what happened next but either my friend Kelly showed up and Sutton Foster was at the store too or we were going to see YF or going to talk to Sutton or something, but Sutton asks us if we could fill in for two of the ensemble parts because we each fit in the costumes of the girls who apparently weren't there or something. Well we went into the dressing rooms and Sutton and one other girl were helping us get the costumes together and telling us when we wear each costume, somehow we learned the choreography(?) and then she gave me blue pointe shoes, which miraculously fit perfectly, only after I put them on, I realized that I didn't have any toe pads (ouch!) because I was a little distracted with this weird costume (which was nothing like YF, more like something that could be in the Producers on crack) and so I was asking if they had extra toe pads and they just gave me some sorry looks and told me not to worry about it and that the other girls will scream at us while we are dancing to let us know where to go.

Um. Okay.

Sutton was sweet though haha...

But that's my dream. Wonder if it means anything...

SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!!!

Yesterday was the best day of my life thus far. Waking up with my boyfriend away from all dorm drama, hanging out for a few hours, and then *drumroll please* the SPICE GIRLS REUNION CONCERT AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN!!!

I know most of the people there who were around my age were fans when they were about 8. I became a fan when they disappeared. So my experience was probably a little different, but we can all agree that this concert was two words:

LIFE CHANGING.

Yep. I am really glad that I didn't go to a Spice Girls concert back in the day because I wouldn't have appreciated it nearly as much. I went to 2 N'Sync concerts, which were my true obsession and if they ever do a reunion tour *prays that they will one day*, that will top this. But for now, even after seeing some truly phenomenal concerts, this tops them all.

I am so surprised I can talk right now because I screamed and sang as loud and as long as anyone else in MSG and even though we were sort of far away from the actual stage, the GIRL POWER was so amazing that I could feel it through every inch of my body :)

I'll post pictures once I steal Kelsie's, because her camera takes much better pictures of concerts than mine does.
